THE weathermen predicted a sudden drop in temperature; however, nothing but sunshine and a warm breeze greeted students when Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary Technical School held their athletic meet at the Wan Chai Sports Ground last week.

Both the girls' A and boys' B grades had double champions this year, all sharing an impressive personal best of 27 points.

This year's girls' Grade B champion, fourth-former Wong Lam, was the Grade C champion two years ago. Winning seemed hardly an effort for the 16-year-old.

''I had only two light practices before the meet,'' said the inter-school athletics representative. ''And I really didn't expect to win since I came third in the 800 m race.'' She did, however, secure first place in the 400 m and the high jump, both her specialities. She also came second in the 4 x 400 m relay.

''Actually, athletics comes second to ball games for me,'' she said. ''I love volleyball, although I also play basketball and table-tennis.'' As a member of the school's volleyball team, Wong Lam has been busy practising for the up-coming Inter-school competition.

''My mum sometimes tells me that it takes up a bit too much of my time,'' she said.
