CLP Power has allocated $1 million to promote renewable energycampaign, this year. Over the past two years, a total of $2 million had been awarded by the company to 19 community projects which aimed to raise public awareness of renewable energy. New elements - energy efficiency and conservation - have been added to this year's theme. CLP Power has emphasised the benefits of their campaign, which include saving resources for future generations and avoiding emissions of greenhouse gases that lead to global warming. The company is currently operating eight hydropower stations in southern China and has started construction of a wind farm in Shandong province . It is also exploring the feasibility of several wind projects in mainland China and Australia. CLP officials said they have set a 5 per cent target for power generation from renewable energy sources by 2010. Community leaders, environmental experts and members from the education sector and professional organisations will be among those who will evaluate project applications, scheduled to be submitted by September.
