What? About 75 per cent of the 180 million people worldwide who are blind or visually impaired can have their sight saved if quality eye treatments and education are made available to them. As a non-profit global organisation, Orbis is dedicated to preventing and treating blindness through their Flying Eye Hospital and various programmes around the world.

How? Visit www.orbis.org.hk or call 2877 9373. You can join the Orbis Student Ambassador Campaign or propose any fun and creative fund-raising ideas to the charity. You can also help out in the Orbis office by doing general clerical duties or lending them a hand with various fund-raising activities.
You can team up with your classmates to help the charity with its bookmark charity sale every Saturday and Sunday from June 18 to July 10. Call 2508 7036 or e-mail [email protected] for information.

Teen volunteer: Tracy Lau Mei-wah, 23, is a graduate of City University of Hong Kong. Lau has been doing volunteer work for Orbis since she and Jess Shek Kin-chong, her friend who was born blind, as well as two other classmates, organised a dogathon at the Happy Valley Racecourse in January.

'Many charity activities are about people helping dogs, but we want to show that dogs can be of great help to people.

More than 100 dogs were involved in the dogathon, and we raised almost $40,000. After deducting all costs, we donated about $30,000 to Orbis.
