Mr and Mrs Smith has a top cast and plenty of action which guarantees box-office success.
Directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity), the film stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as a couple who hide their identity as an assassin from each other.
It begins with John (Pitt) and Jane (Jolie) talking to a marriage counsellor about their ailing relationship.
Their lives are turned upside down when they confront each other after a failed mission that involved the same target.
Their anger is fuelled by a sense of betrayal before they join forces to fight those who hired them, who actually want them dead.
The first half of the film is funny and intelligent. Rather than rushing to explosive action, Liman devotes considerable time to tensions in the marriage. He handles the irony of love with humour and sensitivity.
