ALLAN Chiu's contemporary designs reflect subtle detailing that appeals to the young-at-heart and the fashion-conscious woman. His approach to design is not aggressive and masculine. ''My designs are feminine, they are best for the young and feminine woman,'' Mr Chiu said. His work sells under four different labels: Douce, Kindle, Miss K, and Allan Chiu. Mr Chiu began designing for Hong Kong film production houses, and became sought after as an image consultant for beauty contests. He graduated to his first fashion outlet in 1983, opening Bellona boutique in Hong Kong and selling his creations mainly to local residents. Now, he has an outlet in Singapore and retail counters in several prestigious fashion stores in Taiwan. Hong Kong celebrities demand Mr Chiu's services as an image designer, and he runs his business from offices in the Shing Yip Industrial Building, Shing Yip Street, Kwun Tong. His clothes are also on sale at the Trade Development Design Gallery. Recently, Mr Chiu began working in Hong Kong with fashion company Fairwide International and became responsible for the design of the house brands, Kindle and Miss K. He designs women's high fashion, the most popular of which in Hong Kong, his best market, are the Allan Chiu and Douce labels. These also sell well in Southeast Asia, particularly in Taiwan and Japan. The Kindle and Miss K labels are sold in the territory, China and elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
