Q Are landlords getting too greedy?

I would love to share my experience of greedy landlords. I, too, have thought about opening a bar in Cochrane Street, SoHo.

I paid the one-month deposit, signed the provisional tenancy agreement and waited for the formal tenancy agreement with the key. But I was rejected because the landlord found someone to pay a higher rent.

I can understand that money is a necessity, but to be rejected when everything is arranged is a little unfair. I totally agree with Allen Zeman, who said that it's much better to have a tenant who pays his or her rent on time and that a good tenant who stays more than just a few years helps increase the value of the building.

The time, effort and money spent designing the decor has all gone to waste. Where am I going to keep all the glassware, pots, pans and paintings?

Yes, the landlord has paid me out in full, but who's the real loser here? I do think landlords should really think about settling on rents and sticking to them.
