The restaurant space at 38 Wyndham Street has changed yet again. After a brief stint as a primarily vegetarian restaurant, it became the popular Wyndham Thai, which later moved up the road to bigger premises. It changed to the Australian-ish 38 Wyndham, then gained a French accent as Le Bouche A Oreille. In its latest incarnation, the space is a Mediterranean restaurant, Atlandis. The chef, Mouhoub Madouni, was born in Algeria and worked previously in London, Singapore, the Netherlands and at La Kasbah on Hollywood Road.
Madouni's menu at Atlandis includes ox tongue salad with leek and potato salad and Italian grain mustard dressing ($65), peppery beef carpaccio with shaved parmesan cheese and beetroot and orange salsa ($115), pan-roasted cod fillet with garlic pomme puree and fresh chive cream ($172), slow oven-cooked rabbit with vegetables, Mediterranean olives, garlic and provencal herbs ($149), chateaubriand for two with vegetables, potatoes and Bearnaise sauce ($320), chocolate and lavender mousse ($72), and sweet poached strawberry salad with creme brulee ice cream (below; $69). Atlandis is at 38 Wyndham Street, Central, tel: 2522 9200.
