Legislators yesterday decided to invite the chief executive-designate to attend a question-and-answer session once he has been sworn into office in Beijing.
Emily Lau Wai-hing proposed that the Legislative Council House Committee invite Donald Tsang Yam-kuen to speak to members.
'I hope we can invite him to attend the question-and-answer session before the summer break because I'm sure legislators are eager to discuss many issues with him,' she said. 'It's better not to wait until October, when he plans to deliver his policy address.'
Yeung Sum of the Democratic Party supported the proposal, saying 'If we can invite him to attend the meeting and answer our questions, it will help the public better understand his political platform and philosophy in governance.'
Committee chairman Miriam Lau Kin-yee will invite Mr Tsang to meet legislators before the recess starts on July 7.
Mr Tsang will face more than 300 members of the public at a forum tonight in Sha Tin Town Hall.
