SCMP Reporter

The Chinese department of  CCC Rotary Secondary School held a drama competition for Form Two students  on June 1.

The students performed  interesting and creative dramas for the audience.

Members of the Education and Manpower Bureau   were the guests-of- honour.

The competition aimed to expose Chinese language students to different kinds of  literature and improve their communication skills.

Form One students at STFA Cheng Yu Tung Secondary School recently served dishes with names like 'Father's love in pork chops' and 'Father and Fried Rice' in a cookery competition (pictured above).

Each Form 1 class had to send three representatives to  the  competition.

The theme was 'Father's Day'.

Franky, Calvin and I entered  Class 1B in the contest.

Our dish was called 'Father's love in pork chops'. Pork chops, ham, onion and vegetables were the main ingredients.

The principal, Mr Tsui, and vice-principals, Mr Cheng and Miss Choi, were the judges.

They tried every  dish.

Class 1D won with their dish called 'Father and Fried Rice'. They used lots of vegetables such as carrots and cabbages to spell out 'I Love You'.

Our team came second. But next year, we hope to be the champions.

STFA Cheng Yu  Tung Secondary School

Professor Tsui Lap-chee, vice-chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, was the guest-of-honour  at Marymount Secondary School's  annual Speech Day on  June 3.

Before the  ceremony began, students and parents enjoyed a tea buffet.

Highlights of the year's project work and trophies  were on display.

Principal Veronica Ma gave  a speech  in which she highlighted the many achievements of the school during the year.

Ms Ma noted that as well as achieving outstanding results in external examinations, students have been successful in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

Ms Ma reported that the school's  project-based learning  schemes such as LEAD - the Learning through Engineering, Art and Design Pilot Programme - were very  successful.

Ms Ma also announced that the school's redevelopment  project was on schedule and that the new school complex should open on time in September, 2006.

Professor Lap-Chee Tsui praised the  the school  in an inspiring address.

The professor   encouraged students  not rely on luck or expect achievements to come easily.

He said he followed

his mentor's advice: 'Concentrate on a single thing and be good at it.'

After  prize-giving, the day ended with a  performance by the School Choir and Orchestra.
