Updated at 5.29pm: A woman was fined $3,500 at the Kowloon City Magistrates? Courts on Wednesday afternoon, after pleading guilty to operating an unlicensed bed-space apartment in Hung Hom. She was charged with operating the apartment without a valid certificate of exemption or a valid licence following an inspection by the Home Affairs Department last October, the court heard. The case emerged when Home Affairs Department officers inspected premises on Ma Tau Wai Road in Hung Hom. They found 16 bed-spaces were being rented out. The woman operating the unlicensed bed-space apartment was subsequently charged under the Bed-space Apartments Ordinance. A department spokesman said on Thursday it was a criminal offence to operate such apartments. ?Unlicensed bed-space apartments would not be tolerated and enforcement action would continue to be taken against them to ensure the safety of lodgers,? he explained.
