Government House may be the dream home for many people but Donald Tsang Yam-kuen is already dreading the thought of losing his privacy. Unlike the cosy Victoria House where the Tsangs now live, Government House also houses the chief executive's office at ground level. 'Here is more like a home,' Mr Tsang said in a TVB interview with his wife, Salina Tsang Pow Siu-mei, at their current Barker Road residence. 'Our bedroom is upstairs. Downstairs, there is a small dining room. We have our private life here,' he said. 'Can you imagine going downstairs in your pyjamas [at Government House]? In the morning, before washing myself, can I come down with bare feet, read the newspapers and have a cup of coffee? The answer is no,' Mr Tsang said. But he said he was ready to sacrifice privacy for security's sake. 'Security is very important.' Mrs Tsang, whose fashion style has often been teased as conservative, said she was not bothered by such criticisms. But her husband was quick to tell the truth. 'If it was me who made the criticisms, she would be very concerned,' he said. She said she often had to put up with her husband when he wore a long face back home. After he went to bed, she would flip through press clippings and highlight his PR mistakes. 'She is very concerned if I say something too harsh,' he said.
