Q: What is your day-to-day work like?
A: The main tasks for our team are to patrol the main squares and other major places in the city and to perform for important overseas figures visiting Dalian . We arrive at the training base at 8am to receive assignments. Every morning we discuss each horse's condition and exercise them for about one hour before their 11am lunch.
Your squad has almost become a tourist attraction. How do you feel about that?
I think it is good for the city because there is such a need. We are the first mounted patrol on the mainland and the public is curious. They don't understand our function or our training. And they have little understanding of horses. So we'd like more people to know more.
Visitors can take pictures of us with the horses, but they can also come and watch us train at our base. There is also a club nearby presenting information about our team and its decade-long history. People can also visit the stable and we have several thoroughbreds imported from Hong Kong.
Why did you take up this job?
I love this job. It is an honourable thing for any Dalian girl, I think. My first job was in public relations. I later found it was pretty interesting to be with horses. I read really touching stories about this team.
