Motorola, with its aggressive pursuit of alliances from MTV to Apple Computer, has been driving the market for multimedia-enabled handsets and branded music content. It is a product-segmentation strategy that will pay off soon. Research firm Strategy Analytics forecast total music-enabled device sales will scale to 54 per cent of global handset sales by 2009. With its E680i tri-band mobile phone, Motorola delivers to consumers the convenience to enjoy music and multimedia the way they want it: with 3D stereo surround sound speakers, RealPlayer software, digital music playback and FM radio. The E680i weighs 133 grams and measures 108x53x21mm and comes with more than 2 gigabytes of optional memory. That allows users to transfer, store, catalogue and enjoy their favourite files on the go. The phone is priced at $2,980.
