Floods in six southern and western provinces since mid-June have killed 164 people, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said yesterday. Sixty-eight people are still missing after the floods that hit Zhejiang , Fujian , Jiangxi , Hunan , Guangdong and Guangxi and caused economic losses of 17.4 billion yuan. About 1.87 million people are homeless. The deaths bring the toll from flooding this year to 607. According to the National General Headquarters for Flood Prevention and Drought Control, water levels of the Xijiang and Beijiang in the Pearl River Delta have dropped to safe levels. Meteorologists predict torrential rain will move north to hit Jiangsu , Anhui , Hubei and Jiangxi . Parts of northeastern Liaoning and Jilin provinces will also see heavy rainfall.
