A pimp and his associate pleaded guilty yesterday over the bashing death of a man outside a Yau Ma Tei brothel in late 2003. Wong Ka-ho and Leung Chun-yin pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter after being charged with murder over the October 19 killing. It was alleged they had taken leading roles in a brutal assault by at least 10 people on 33-year-old Hui Wai-leung after an argument about his treatment of a prostitute for whom Wong was a pimp. An autopsy carried out the day after Hui's death found he died from a ruptured liver. The organ had been almost split in two by the force of the attack, during which witnesses reported seeing people, including the two accused, repeatedly punch and kick Hui in the head and body and stamp on his abdomen while he was lying on the ground. It was alleged that Hui had arrived at the Sun To Finger Care brothel on Reclamation Street in Yau Ma Tei at about 12.45am and asked for the services of a particular prostitute for whom Wong pimped. The woman met Hui at the brothel at about 1.47am, but about 30 minutes later the brothel manager went to the room and found the pair embroiled in a heated argument. He intervened and paid the woman off, and she left. Wong telephoned the manager a short time later and told him that Hui had hit and kicked the prostitute and that he was coming over to investigate. He arrived with the woman and another man and demanded $1,000 in compensation while the second man telephoned for reinforcements. Hui told the manager he had not hit the woman and offered $300 to him to try to settle with Wong. The attempt was unsuccessful and a short time later Wong and Leung, with another person called Adams, went in and escorted Hui from the brothel. Outside, where there were by then about 10 people gathered, Hui was again asked for compensation. When he refused, Wong punched him twice in the head and then kicked him when he fell to the ground. The other men took this as their cue to rush in and it was then that Leung was seen to kick and punch Hui 'very hard' about the head and body. Another man was seen to stamp heavily on his stomach. Hui managed to pull himself to his feet and call out for help after the attack, but was declared dead at 4.40am. The judge has reserved sentencing.
