PENTA-WAI Kee Joint Venture has won a $1.6 billion site formation contract to extend China Resources Petroleum and Chemicals' (CRPC) oil terminal on Tsing Yi Island.
Penta-Wai Kee is a joint venture between Penta-Ocean Construction and Wai Kee (Zens) Construction and Transportation.
The expanded terminal, which is due to be completed at the end of 1995 on reclaimed land, will replace CRPC's Nga Ying Chau terminal in northern Tsing Yi.
The new terminal will have greater automation than the old facility and will cover an area of 13.5 hectares.
A new pier will handle ships serving both CRPC and Dow Chemical, which no longer has access to the Mobil pier in southwest Tsing Yi which closed this year.
It will handle tankers up to 80,000 deadweight tonnes and will have two berths for smaller vessels, barges and small craft.
