University of Hong Kong
The University of Hong Kong Worldwide Undergraduate Student Exchange Programme boasts more than 150 partner institutions in about 20 countries. It offers students from any faculty the opportunity to apply to study for either a semester or a whole academic year at some of the world's top tertiary education institutions.
North America is the most popular destination, according to Katherine Wan, programme director of International Student Exchange. She said that was because many students were looking to improve their English.
But Ms Wan added that exchange positions in European countries where students could study languages other than English were also gaining in popularity.
About 1,500 students take part every year in the school's various exchange programmes, which include summer programmes such as the five-week Yonsei University Korean Language Summer Special Programme and the Moscow State University Summer Cultural Studies Programme.
HKU is also a member of the Global Engineering Education Exchange, a programme administered in the United States by the Institute of International Education. This allows students from engineering and computer science disciplines to receive academic credit for courses taken at overseas member institutions and to experience practical training in a foreign setting.
