I often look up at the stars at night and think about people who have passed away. Have they truly left us, or are they looking over our shoulders? Perhaps they have been reincarnated and are walking around Earth again. Be they Christian or Buddhist, most people have their own ideas about what happens when we die. We can't help but ponder our place in the world and the purpose of our existence. Finding out what lies beyond our present form of life, be it an afterlife or the ultimate end of our existence, seems to give us a sense of comfort in our everyday lives. Coming to grips with the concept that there will be an end to whatever we possess or achieve encourages us to treasure the present. More importantly, it allows us to see the true value behind everything in life, ranging from our existence to the little things we do daily. Yet, merely waiting for the inevitable isn't the way forward. Not only is it depressing to wait for our hair to turn white, or for a huge potted plant on a ledge to come crashing down on our heads, it's boring! We should establish a self-timer in our minds. Eventually, we will all die and leave this world, but until that fateful day, we should have as much fun as we can and make good use of our time. No matter whether end up in heaven or are reincarnated as guppies, nothing can stop us from living an enjoyable and fulfilling life. Jason Ng is a student at King George V School
