Police have reopened investigations into the death of a former model whose dismembered skeleton was found in a flat owned by the brother of Anson Chan Fang On-sang.
The Organised Crime and Triad Bureau is heading the investigation. Police said last night they attached great importance to the case.
An independent police taskforce has been reviewing the case, following pressure from sisters of the dead woman, insurance agent Annie Pang Chor-ying.
Pang's skeleton was found nearly seven years ago next to a bed in the Yau Ma Tei flat owned by John Fang Meng-sang. The head was in a rubbish bin nearby. Pang had gone missing four years earlier. No one has been arrested or charged, and no inquest held, over her death.
Welcoming the news, legislator Leung Yiu-chung, who is helping the victim's two sisters, said they were 'very happy'. The sisters last month demanded a judicial review to force an inquest into Pang's death.
Police are appealing for anyone with 'material information to offer' to come forward. Officers will 'consider approaching and interviewing anyone who might be related to the case'.
