A position has cropped up for a talented buyer who revels in responsibility and has an instinctive feel for the fashion business. Hong Kong's most prestigious speciality store would like to hire a buyer - women's wear. Already a well-known player on the local shopping scene, Lane Crawford recently celebrated a new chapter in its 154-year history with the opening of its 82,000 sqft flagship store at IFC. Whoever takes on this post will be responsible for the selection of the women's wear merchandise mix and for identifying and balancing key trend items and core volume basics, according to Seville Chow, Lane Crawford's divisional merchandise manager. 'The applicant will also be responsible for departmental sales, profits and sales through targets based on seasonal business plans,' Ms Chow said. The successful applicant will be required to monitor weekly and monthly sell-throughs and inventory turnover, among many other duties. 'The applicant must be able to negotiate with suppliers in a tough but fair manner to secure exclusive ranges and brands, and optimise the profit margin,' Ms Chow said. The applicant should also understand global and local fashion market trends and play an active part in decision making, initiating ideas and proposing solutions. Candidates with a keen knowledge and full understanding of multibrand market trends should apply. Those who can identify and understand the idiosyncrasies of brand profiles are also desirable, Ms Chow said. 'You must be able to identify and propose potential new brands for the season [that will help] maximise Lane Crawford's fashion position and business opportunities,' she said. Applicants should be enthusiastic team players and be happy to take on a potential leadership role.
