The Education and Manpower Bureau has teamed with global software giant Oracle to offer an online learning platform and software for Form Six computer students in the coming academic year.
Education minister Arthur Li Kwok-cheung signed an agreement this week with Oracle which will provide a tailor-made programme to support the AS-level computer applications and A-Level computer studies curricula.
The $240 million programme can benefit 6,000 students from more than 240 local schools.
It will offer participating secondary schools learning and teaching resources, including free access to database curriculum material via an online learning platform called Oracle iLearning. Students can also use Oracle Database to gain access to the online development environment for SQL programming.
'It's a tailor-made programme offering the latest technology for students,' Professor Li said. 'They can acquire necessary skills and analytical skills they need to carry for the rest of their lives.'
Oracle will provide software services, which include training and materials, as well as remote hosting of their online platform on a renewable one-year basis. It hopes schools would be better prepared for the proposed elective subject - information and communication technology, in 2009, under the new senior secondary curriculum.
