Proving good ideas stand the test of time, Alessi has reintroduced the Programma 8 crockery designed in the 1970s by Franco Sargiani and Eija Helander. The duo came up with implements for the kitchen and table that emphasised practicality and flexibility. Thirty years later, designers have realised anew the beauty of the concept - and how to improve it. Instead of being dual purpose, the ceramic containers (salad set, below; $510) can now be used for cooking, serving and preserving. But some things never change. The stainless steel tray (from $450 to $960) is still the collection's basic unit. The company's spring/summer 2005 range is available at Alessi, shop 112, Ruttonjee Centre, 11 Duddell Street, Central, tel: 2525 5144.
