One minute, Canto-pop star Isabella Leong Lok-sze is like any 17-year-old girl - cheerful and shy. The next minute, she is posing effortlessly in front of the camera, performing
with a skill and maturity far beyond her age.
Leong says her true nature has been given a chance to shine in the new film Bug Me Not, a bubbly comedy which offers lessons about love, friendship and caring for the environment.
'Compared with singing, I think I can express myself more in films as I can invest part of my personality into the character,' she says. 'Although many people think I am a quiet and polite, I'm actually an active and upbeat girl who can be quite boyish.'
Directed by Law Chi-leung (Inner Senses), Bug Me Not revolves around an innocent young girl (Leong) who has the ability to communicate with insects.
She falls for an illiterate young man (Chen Po-lin), but has no idea how to express her love. So she takes the advice of a gung-ho bug, but the courtship ends in disaster.
