There are various special rules in place for the Homeless World Cup competition. Teams may consist of all-male, all-female or mixed teams with four players - comprising three field players and one goalkeeper - in any eight-person squad on court at any one time. Matches will consist of two halves of seven minutes apiece of regular time. Goalkeepers are not permitted to leave their own penalty area, or to score a goal for their own side. Field players are not allowed to enter their own or their opponents' penalty areas. Should they do so, they will concede a penalty. Sanctions for foul play include a blue card (the offending player will be out of the game for two minutes) and a red card (offending player dismissed for the remainder of the match). Matches cannot be drawn, they must produce a winner. If the scores are level at the end of a match, a penalty shootout will be staged in order to determine the winning team.
