BOOK FAIRS DO not have to be about books only. This year's Hong Kong Book Fair will feature a variety of entertainment-related material, such as DVD box sets of rare films, popular drama and animation, as well as software to help you make your own movies or learn a language.

Fans of Japanese animation will be interested in Dynamic Video Multi-Media's exclusive range of DVDs and VCDs, including recent titles such as Yu Yu Hakusho and Naruto.

'We are the only Hong Kong licensee of Japanese drama from the Tokyo Broadcasting System,' said Noel Chu, the company's executive manager.

Mr Chu  expected much interest to be shown in the Yu Yu Hakusho range, which was very popular with local audiences when the series was broadcast on TVB.

'Animation fans cherish those fabulous fighting scenes,' Mr Chu said.

'The Japanese are visual masters, and the quality is guaranteed. We also included the original TVB Cantonese soundtrack, so it will be double enjoyment for animation fans.'

Comic book fans  will be interested in the company's Naruto range, based on the best-selling comic of the same name.

Multimedia provider Panorama Distribution Company will be showcasing VCD and DVD box sets  of popular South Korean and Japanese dramas, which will be available only at the fair.  The range will include the popular Jewel in the Palace series and the work of filmmaker Ozu Yasujiro.

'Jewel in the Palace is a very popular drama, and this is the only official box set that can be bought in Hong Kong,' said Tammy Ho, senior manager, marketing and promotion.

The company said the Ozu Yasujiro box set would appeal to serious film lovers, even those who were not familiar with Ozu's work.

'The box set is valuable because it includes rare masterpieces that cannot easily  be found in  Chinese and English-speaking countries,' Ms Ho said.

Panorama will also be exhibiting a selection of animation and cartoon material in addition to its collection of foreign-language dramas and films.

Those with an interest in multimedia will be drawn to Intelligent Software's  wide range  of material  for video editing, DVD authoring, photo editing and webpage design.

The company will also display its range of educational software and its most popular product, Dr.eye,   the translation and language learning software that integrates Chinese (simplified and traditional), English and Japanese. Dr.eye provides instant word and phrase translation, writing recognition, a multilingual dictionary and learning functions such as word builder, sentence patterns and voice repeater (which uses the voices of native speakers).

'This is the second time we are  exhibiting at the Hong Kong book fair, and our products appeal to all ages,' said a company spokesman.

Many companies are participating in the non-book products display, with items that  are visually stimulating or interactive.
