Fresh coup attempts are unlikely as potential leaders have been neutralised, a military chief says. Armed forces deputy chief of staff Lieutenant-General Edilberto Adan, who is set to assume the top military post next month, said 'we've already relieved those officers who have issued statements against the institution, and sanctioned those who are planning to do the same'. He declined to say how many were involved, but identified two - Major Jason Aquino and Colonel Ricardo Morales. He said Major Aquino was sacked as chief of an elite Scout Ranger Regiment after being identified as the writer of a pamphlet entitled 'A New Order', advocating a military takeover. Colonel Morales was relieved of command of an infantry brigade after e-mailing colleagues to overthrow the government.
