Need another good reason to trade in that old and bulky television in your living room? Here it is: the 42-inch PS42S5H Plasma TV from Samsung Electronics. This new release features 549 billion vibrant colours generated by its 13-bit processor. Featuring a sleek design and black aluminium frame, the PS42S5H weighs about 42kg and measures 1,059 x 325 x 793mm without a stand. It offers a generous viewing angle of over 170 degrees, resolution of up to 1,024 x 768 pixels, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio and 1,300 candela per meter squared
brightness. This model also supports High-Definition Multimedia Interface, a high-bandwidth connection standard for digital TVs to carry video, audio, data, and control signals. Of course, all these features come at a steep price: $39,800.
Microsoft bargains It is that time of year again when Microsoft shares its largesse with Hong Kong consumers. The software giant's 'Crazy Summer Sale' will offer discounts of up to 50 per cent on select peripheral computing devices until August 31. These include Microsoft-brand desktop sets, keyboards and mouse units. The Wireless Optical Desktop 3.0 Comfort Edition set, which used to cost $699, is now priced at $499. This desktop set features a cushioned keyboard wrist rest for comfort and the Zoom Slider for quicker, more convenient browsing of documents. Other bargains include Microsoft's Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer, now priced at $289 from $449, and Wireless Optical Desktop Elite Executive, priced at $509 from $739.
