Aug 5, 7.45pm, YMCA, TST The latest instalment of the YMCA's Voice Out True Music band show promises the best line-up yet. Audiotraffic (above), The Pliable, Qiu Hong, Malfunction, Soler and Mizz Eva will all take to the YMCA's stage on August 5. Part of the YMCArts in Education programme, this monthly series of gigs aims to promote new and existing bands while encouraging awareness of the local music scene. 'We hope more people will learn to appreciate the effort and talent shown in the written and performed music of these bands,' says show organiser Sandy Chan Man-yee. The show also seeks to provide local artists with an opportunity to make money. All bands are allocated space in the reception area to sell merchandise. 'We want to encourage Hong Kong people to support local bands by buying their CDs and not to download,' Chan says. Audiotraffic frontman Adrian Da Silva says he's looking forward to performing. 'It's a surprisingly good venue,' he says. 'Just the right size to get a good vibe.' Newcomers Qiu Hong have been setting the recent battle of the bands on fire. 'We treasure every chance we're given to play our music to people,' says lead singer Jan Lo Kar-man. 'Every show is a chance for people to get to hear more local music.' Atmospheric rockers The Pliable make their YMCA debut this month. 'Most of the crowd are young people and students,' says singer Joel Ng Sze-yip. 'We hope that, whoever comes, they're truly interested in music. These shows are great because they give bands the support and opportunity to play.' Eva Chan Sze-wai (aka Mizz Eva) agrees: 'The shows give us a chance to play our music to a wider crowd.' She promises something different for the show, collaborating with MC Snake and Partyolk. 'I think the combination will be refreshing.' Completing the line-up are promising rock pop twins Soler and the always-entertaining performance artists Malfunction.
