Does pink, green, yellow or purple rice arouse your taste buds? Taiwanese researchers are making colourful rice to lure people back from western fast foods. The colours come from healthy foods, not dyes, each with its own nutritional boost. Yellow rice gets its hue from turmeric - a spice used in curries that also helps prevent cancer. Nutritious bitter gourd is used to make green rice, tomatoes make pink rice and mixed vegetables make purple rice. Researchers are developing up to 14 colours. The products are expected in stores next year at double the price of plain rice.
