THE tight Happy Valley track with its continual turns suits Racing Ace, and the five-year-old New Zealand import looks a worthwhile banker for the first leg of tomorrow night's Double Trio at the city course.
Racing Ace has one highly significant piece of form and that was at Happy Valley last season when he finished second to Dashing over 1,650 metres. There was only a neck in it at the line with Racing Ace staying on but not being able to peg back the GeoffLane-trained star.
At his last start over this course and distance two weeks ago he faded slightly for fourth to Cheguei, who was continuing his fantastic run of success this season.
In a significant riding change maximum claimer W.M. Lai takes over and the 10lb allowance is going to make all the difference. He is also drawn next to the rails, so young Lai can make full use of his weight advantage and have the Tony P.H. Chan galloperreally bowling along.
For the purposes of the Double Trio, of course, Racing Ace does not have to win but merely finish in the first three and on his most recent form he will almost certainly do just that.
But this is a most interesting Class Three, 1,800-metre event where there are a number of chances.
Last start winner Owners Spirit, who won easily over the same course and distance but on rain-affected ground, will still figure prominently while attention should be paid to the Irish import, Muster Mark.
