Sun Yat-sen University

Formerly Zhongshan University, Sun Yat-sen University's areas of strength are medical studies, natural science, Chinese literature and history. The Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences (originally Boji Medical College) was the first medical school to practise and teach western medicine on the mainland and it was at this college that its namesake studied medicine. Out of a student population of 21,000, there are 800 foreigners (not including those from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). The Guangzhou campus has an international student dormitory.
