Veteran singer Paula Tsui Siu-fung abandoned the stage in the middle of her comeback concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum last night, saying she felt sick and that her voice was not as good as expected.

About 60 minutes into her first show in a decade, she told fans she could not continue. But she promised a special show would be held for them on August 14 if they kept their tickets. It could not be confirmed last night whether tonight's concert would go ahead.

Her agent said Tsui had begun to feel sick after inhaling smoke while on stage and had returned to her Sha Tin home.

The star, known for her deep voice and spotted outfits, is so popular that when tickets to her eight shows went on sale last month, they sold out in one day, with fans braving torrential rain to get them.
