AN international symposium and exhibition on aviation security began in Hong Kong yesterday, organised by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

More than 400 delegates and exhibitors from airlines, aviation authorities and manufacturers from around the world descended on the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for Aviation Security in Practice, which runs until Friday.

Hong Kong Secretary of Security Alistair Asprey has been lined up as the keynote speaker at this morning's official opening.

He will be introduced by Rod Eddington, managing director of Cathay Pacific Airways, the co-host of the event.

Other key speakers during the week include Britain's Minister for Aviation and Shipping, the Earl of Caithness, and James Frier, deputy assistant director of the investigate division of the FBI.
