CitySeen has just learned local director Andrew Lau Wai-keung (who co-directed Initial D and the Infernal Affairs trilogy) has convinced Richard Gere to sign on for his next film, an independent thriller called The Flock. According to Agence France-Presse, Gere will play an American agent trying to track down a missing girl in the US$35 million independent movie. You probably already know Lau's cops and robbers Infernal Affairs will be remade by Hollywood director Martin Scorsese with Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio (in place of Andy Lau Tak-wah and Tony Leung Chiu-wai). The Hollywood title is The Departed.
In other casting news, Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh will reunite in a second world war drama called The Bitter Sea. The director is Roger Spottiswoode (Tomorrow Never Dies) and the story is set during the Japanese invasion of China. Chow will play a communist commander and Yeoh a villager in this true story of a British reporter who saves 60 orphans.
