MANY people enjoy going to the cinema to watch films.

  It is a popular form of recreation in modern day society.

  Some people watch films as a means of education.

  They can improve their scientific knowledge or can find out about historical events.

  However, there are other films, which have no educational value whatsoever and which are full of scenes of sex and violence.

  This can have a negative effect on the minds of young people, because many of them are immature and they do not understand about sex and violence.

  This is not the right way for them to learn about such things. They should be taught that sex is a natural function. However, these films, often serve to provide titillation and this can have a detrimental effect on a child with an immature mind.

  It gives them an incorrect understanding of sex.

  They are full of curiosity about this subject, but if they start going to such films on a regular basis, they may neglect their studies at school and get poor academic results.

  The problem is made worse by the fact that although the Government has passed laws restricting what people under the age of 18 can see, some cinemas let in young people who are underage.

  These cinema owners are more concerned with making money, than observing the law and let underage youngsters into Category III films.

  The Government should try harder, with the use of plainclothes detectives, to enforce the law and penalise those who break the law.

  Penalties should also be tougher for those who are caught. There should be more campaigns trying to curb young people from watching films with gratuitous sex and violence.

  Parents also have an important role to play.

  They should teach their children the correct concepts of sex and warn them about the reality of violence, which is often very different from what they see in the cinema.
