What is a chemical peel?
It's performed by a doctor using alpha-hydroxy acid (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acid (BHAs) and trichloroacetic acid (TCA). It literally peels off the superficial dead skin layer. The chemicals penetrate the skin to initiate collagen formation, which improves the texture of the skin.
Why would someone want to peel off their skin?
Central-based dermatologist George Ng says people have chemical peels to make their skin appear younger and to smooth rough, dry skin. It helps remove facial blemishes, fine wrinkles and lighten skin pigmentation. A good chemical peel is also said to remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne scars and control further acne breakouts.
How long does it take?
From five to 15 minutes for each session.
