A man's life begins at 50, so a Chinese saying goes. But our city's new Young Accountants Association offers another perspective.

Set up last month, the association now has about 60 accountants which, as its name suggests, is tailored for the 'young'.

Its definition: below 40.

According to its own rules, even its 35-year-old founding member and convenor Ronald Kung will be 'out' in five years.

Mr Kung told White Collar that the accounting industry is dominated by 'youngsters', with almost half of the 23,000 professionals in Hong Kong under 40. Its youngest members are accounting students aged about 20.

'Because we are young, we want to organise seminars and activities to allow the young accountants to meet with more people outside their own firms to build up their network,' Mr Kung said.
