THE two ''black boxes'' which could reveal why a China Airlines jumbo jet skidded into Victoria Harbour are being examined by experts in Britain.
The cockpit voice recorder and the digital flight data recorder were recovered from the plane during the salvage operation over the past few days and flown to the UK for examination.
Experts from the Civil Aviation Authority will report their findings to the investigation team in Hong Kong that was set up to look into the cause of last Thursday's crash.
Officials from the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department have been joined by top UK accident investigators and officials from Boeing and will be assisted by other experts, including two Taiwanese Civil Aviation Authority engineers.
No details of the investigation will be released until the final report is produced, which could take up to a year.
The Deputy Director of Civil Aviation, Richard Siegel, said witnesses were already being questioned, including two crew members who were still in Hong Kong.
''[The investigation] is already on-going. [The investigation team] will examine the aircraft when it is available. Then they will examine all the data and take it to a conclusion.'' Mr Siegel said no decision had been made on how, when or where to lift the plane for final examination, but it was likely to be examined within the airport compound.
