Hong Kong Arts Centre
Ends August 31
'Who is Hello Kitty?' this show asks. As if we don't already know. Hello! Celebrating her 30th birthday, this cute little white cartoon cat was born on November 1, 1974, in suburban London. Probably her most distinctive feature is that she has no mouth.
Created by Japanese designer Yuko Shimizu, Hello Kitty is known throughout the world. Her face is ubiquitous and appears on stationery, confectionery, clothes, mobile phones and credit cards - not to mention having been associated with a notorious murder case in Hong Kong.
So it's little surprise that toymaker Sanrio should organise an exhibition about Hello Kitty and her friends - Tippy, Jodie, Tiny Chum, Tim & Tammy, Rory, Tracy, Fifi (to name a few) - and sister Mimi and boyfriend Dear Daniel to mark the end of the celebrations.
On top of showcasing all the Hello Kitty essentials and vintage collectors items - there should be plenty of notebooks, hairclips, stickers and watches on display - perhaps the most interesting part of Hide and Seek are artists' tributes to the feline character.
