Native English speaking teachers, both full time and part time, who love to work with children are required by an English learning centre specialising in phonics teaching in small classes.

Jolly Clown Learning Centre was established in 2000 for children as young as 18 months and up to 12 years. 'We would like to recruit teachers whose first language is English. Depending on what class the teacher is assigned, there will be either a maximum of eight students per class for playgroups or a maximum of six students for other classes,' said supervisor Tami Pang.

The recruits will be teaching in accordance with guidelines and programmes established by the centre, as well as planning worksheets and related materials for their classes. Conducting regular assessments of students is also required.

'For the playgroups we are looking for people who love to interact with smaller kids,' said Ms Pang.

Teaching experience in phonics or grammar is required for the phonics classes and other English classes. 'They have to work with kids from K3 to P6,' said Ms Pang.

Preference will be given to teachers with a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or TESOL (Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate and permanent residency. It will consider applications from experienced teachers who require visa sponsorship. The centre is open seven days a week and teachers must be able to work on either Saturday or Sunday, in addition to during the week.
