Radiant bride Solveig Bang of Shek O sent us photos of the 1928 Dodge Victory 6 Tourer that helped make her big day so wonderful in May.
'When I got married recently in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, my former boyfriend, Paul Hoepfl, kindly offered to chauffeur the bride in his family's Dodge, which has been in the family for almost 30 years,' she writes. ''I knew we'd make it to the church together eventually,' said the good-natured Paul wryly, as he drove me to the church to marry Mark. Arriving a little early, we had to go around the block a few times to kill time, and it was very gratifying to enjoy the attention of pedestrians and motorists.' The Dodge has an endearing, if not melodious, horn, the bride writes.
'The car was a spectacular addition to the wedding party and a great attention-getting device,' Bang says. 'Where once gangsters had stood on the running boards, there perched a small army of toddlers in their wedding best. The ride in the Dodge was our most novel wedding gift and I intend to get behind the wheel soon to return the favour when Paul marries his lovely Beatrice. Note to brides: Be careful which car you choose to convey you ... you might find yourself upstaged.'
Well, we're naming Bang the Foot Down bride of the month, and are sending her a pair of genuine Hong Kong taxi driver's gloves (value $3).
A beautiful wedding car needs little or no decoration. Floral artist Kerry Dinkelman created a lovely garland in cream and green roses and lysianthus to match Bang's bouquet. Complementing the classic's chrome and contrasting with its blue paintwork, it was attached with a single silk ribbon.
'The garland weathered the journey - and a shower of rain - well, as well as the attention and fingers of some of the younger guests,' Bang writes. 'And Paul's mum took it home, where it gave enjoyment as a table centre-piece for a week.
