A sandwich doesn't necessarily have to be cold, bland and unimaginative. If you use good quality bread and fillings, a sandwich can be transformed from something you gobble down during your lunch hour into a meal that can be savoured.
To make a good sandwich, the bread is as important as the filling. Don't use puffy white sandwich bread; buy quality loaves from a good bakery. If using flavoured bread, make sure it complements the filling.
The following fillings are only guidelines: you can create your own to suit your tastes. Other good combinations are goat's cheese, salami, tomato and basil, roquefort with endive and walnuts, prosciutto and gorgonzola and chopped bittersweet chocolate with dulce de leche and sliced bananas.
