Director Tsui Hark confirmed a sequel would be made to his martial arts epic Seven Swords, which will raise the curtain on the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday.
'We've already got the script. I'll sit down working on it after travelling to Venice, Seoul and Tokyo later this year,' said Tsui.
Neither the production budget nor the release date was finalised, he said. As for the cast, Tsui said those playing 'seven swords' such as Leon Lai Ming and Charlie Young will remain in the sequel.
'We are still casting for the new characters. The scale will be different in the sequel. The story will have a royal family, scenes of the palace, lots of different ceremonies and rituals. The production design will be very different.'
Seven Swords has taken more than $100 million at the box office on the mainland, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong. It has earned $7,643,665 after showing for 27 days here.
The film is adapted from Liang Yusheng's classic martial arts novel Seven Swordsmen from Mountain Tian, from his Mount Heaven series. Other titles from the series include The Bride With White Hair.
