Pop star Kelly Chen Wai-lam  yesterday visited the seven-year-old boy who survived a vicious chopping attack at Lei Muk Shue Estate in Kwai Tsing last Thursday.

Shum Ho-yin's dream came true just one day after he said he wanted to meet Chen and Andy Lau Tak-wah in a video message.

'I could not sleep after I had learnt that Kelly Chen would come to see me,' Ho-yin told the singer.

To make Ho-yin's stay at Yan Chai Hospital more enjoyable, Chen brought him gifts, including a portable DVD player, a cartoon DVD and English comics.

During her one-hour visit, she gave the boy a hair cut, sang songs and read a story to him.

'He enjoys listening to stories very much. I also sang karaoke with him and I find that he knows how to sing my songs very well,' she said. 'Although Ho-yin cannot move his right arm, which is all wrapped up, he can still play with his left hand. He can sit up straight too. He is a very lovely, smart and happy boy.

'He remains optimistic after what has happened to him. I think he can get well very soon with such a positive personality.'

Flowers, greeting cards and gifts from the public inundated Ho-yin's bedside. The detectives investigating the case also said they had received phone calls from the public who asked them to pass on their best wishes to the boy.

When asked what else he wanted, Ho-yin said: 'I have enough. There is nothing more that I want.  I would like to thank  every Hong Kong citizen who loves and cares about me.'

The only wish Ho-yin has now is to see his best friends and classmates again, but Chen quoted his mother as saying it would be difficult to make arrangements for so many friends to visit. Chen described Ho-yin's mother as calm and peaceful, when she saw her during her visit, and said she did not mention anything about the attack on the boy.

Chen said she was shocked when she first heard what had happened to the boy and hoped the police would find the assailants  soon and bring them to justice.

New Territories South Regional Crime Unit  detectives continued  investigations into the attack and an officer involved promised that all necessary resources would be deployed.

The unit said it was making good progress in its inquiries.

Police sources said they had already identified some targets but declined to elaborate, fearing it could jeopardise the investigation.

Police returned to the crime scene at Lei Muk Shue Estate yesterday morning and invited Ho-yin's father to a police station where he was asked to provide more information. Two sketches of suspects were also released.

Police urged anyone with information about the case - and any taxi driver who might have driven the fleeing suspects - to call 2631 8437.
