Ten Hong Kong university graduates will spend the next year teaching in impoverished areas in Hunan province as part of a new volunteer programme.
They will be sent to one of three secondary schools in the Xiangxi Autonomous Region to teach English, music, fine arts, geography, physics and physical education.
Organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association, each person will receive 70,000 yuan for the year.
Among the four men and six women, seven graduated from university this year. The members of the group said they would benefit from the teaching experience.
Jackson Sin Tsun Keung has spent the past three years employed as an engineer and will teach physics for the next year.
'I hope we can help the local students understand that knowledge is good for them, and make their lives full of hope,' he said.
