Jazzy girls fuel groovy movie
Forget about boring self-help books. Jazzy Japanese movie Swing Girls demonstrates a groovy way to boost your self-confidence: play the saxophone.
Directed by Shinobu Yaguchi (Waterboys), the film is an irresistibly charming story of girls meet jazz.
A group of aimless high school girls decide to join their school's brass band in order to skip boring summer math classes. Despite playing horribly, they fall in love with music and form their own jazz band.
Under the guidance of their wacky math teacher (Naoto Takenaka), the girls enter a music competition which pits them against elite student bands.
The girl band's transformation from hopeless musicians to skilled jazz performers within a few months is unconvincing. But the film's loopholes are minor.
There are comical gags to keep you laughing non-stop and catchy jazz scores which will set your toes tapping.
