Paradigms shift - what was once the peak may not seem as lofty the next time you look at it.

This is especially true for German carmaker Audi, where expectations are high. You have to keep getting better: witness the all-new Audi A6, which comes in two types - saloon and Avant.

The Avant (estate car) follows hot on the heels of Audi's successful A4 Avant.

'We figured that we were very successful with the A4 Avant, and customers told us they were ready to upgrade from the A4 to the A6,' said Chong Got, managing director of Premium Motors. 'They wanted something different.'

Mr Got was at pains to clarify that the A6 was not an estate car. He said Audi deliberately called the car Avant because it was not a derivative of a saloon body shape.
