Ten Hong Kong bus companies have put up $70 million to buy a fleet of 50 buses to carry mainland tourists to and from the theme park. One of them, Wonderland Cross-Border Coach Ltd, expects to carry 2,000 to 2,500 passengers a day initially between the Huanggang-Lok Ma Chau border crossing and Disneyland, with the figure rising eventually to 4,000.
Each passenger will pay $80 one way or $150 for a round trip. The journey is expected to take 45 minutes. About 70 per cent of mainland tourists come to Hong Kong via Shenzhen.
Principal transport officer Lo Yat-cheung said that, as well as going via Lok Ma Chau, mainland visitors should also use the Lowu checkpoint because it can handle more people.
The government will have three emergency centres in operation - at Lowu, Lok Ma Chau and Penny's Bay - to monitor transport to and from the park.
