Nomads and DBS in enthralling tie
NOMADS and Diocesan Boys School battled to a rare tie in a Connaught Saturday League encounter at Stanley Fort yesterday.
DBS made 148 for seven in their 35 overs with Stewart Brew top-scoring with 70.
Nomads, in reply, were one ball away from achieving victory, but Bruce Mitchell was clean bowled by Martin Ling in the final delivery of the match.
Both teams earned nine points.
In another close finish, Kai Tak beat St Georges by four wickets at Mission Road.
St Georges scored 180 for nine in 35 overs and then had Kai Tak in trouble, reducing them to 24 for four in 12 overs.
But a 106-run fifth-wicket partnership between Nigel Sawrey-Cookson (66) and Hugh Inman (37) pulled Kai Tak out of danger.
Mark Austin hit David Cross for a six in the penultimate ball of the match for the winning runs.
At Sek Kong, Merchants beat Crusaders by six wickets, while Little Sai Wan defeated Gap Ramblers by 20 runs at the Hong Kong Cricket Club.
There were also wins for CCC, Centaurs, and HKU.
