ORDER of Merit champion Richard Kan fired an even-par 72 yesterday to maintain Hong Kong's high spirits in the US$1.2 million World Cup of Golf in Orlando, Florida. Kan improved on his opening-day effort by two strokes at the Lake Nona club and with teammate Yau Sui-ming returning a 74, Hong Kong remained tied for 17th place in the 32-nation event going into the third round. The territory's aggregate total of 293 is 16 shots behind the pace-setting American duo of Fred Couples and Davis Love III. However, among the countries within Hong Kong's sights are established golfing nations such as England, Canada and Wales. Hong Kong also have the distinction of being the leading Asian nation - ahead of Japan, Taiwan and South Korea who were disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard.
